Managers: how to make remote working effective?

Dear leaders

Here are 4 concrete elements, like an airplane pilot checklist, to make the work of your employees and yours effective.

1. Define specific moments of communication

  • Establish short and regular meetings with your remote collaborators. For example, a 30-minute daily break;
  • If you have to have a chance exchange with an employee, make sure that the employee is in good conditions to participate in this exchange.

2. Use the right means of communication

  • Choose hot channels: video, telephone;
  • Avoid email, unless you have a simple message (a few lines);
  • Use shared media (e.g. Google Doc) to limit the risk of misunderstanding.

3. Have adapted communication

  • Adopt a caring and warm state of mind, engage in a real dialogue;
  • Be clear, concise, transparent, and factual in your oral and written communication;
  • Build an agenda with those present at the start of each meeting.

4. Optimize remote work

  • Jointly define rules for organizing telework
  • Support remote workers in the technical installation of teleworking;
  • Structure communication and content. For example by opening a Drive.
