The manager's time

Among the major challenges for managers, identified by VISCONTI, the lack of availability emerged as the most obvious. Paradoxically, at a time when technologies seek to save us more and more time, we feel that we have less and less time.

The time problem for managers

For a manager, the lack of time is both high and problematic. Indeed, and particularly in SMEs, most managers condition their responsibility on being present and active on all fronts.

As a result, they quickly find themselves overwhelmed by the quantity of tasks they need to perform or control. The result is a lack of time, which is all the more worrying since managers should, in essence, benefit from moments of reflection in order to implement an effective and sustainable strategy.

Reallocate 20% of your time to activities with high added value

The manager's time is therefore one of the fundamental cogs in the success of the company and it is the first angle of attack for coaching at VISCONTI, demonstrating theimpact of professional coaching on business performance.

In the initial phase of coaching, entitled “Mastering”, the manager, through workshops and exhaustive tools, takes control of all facets of his business, from marketing to human resources, through trade and financial affairs.

During this phase, a particular focus is placed on the manager himself in order to allow him to reallocate 20% of his time to activities with high added value.

The 10 Principles of Time Management

To do this, all of the manager's habits are analyzed by a detailed questionnaire, then a very detailed audit of the manager's agenda is carried out in order to find a balance between his daily imperatives and the good time management practices that VISCONTI describes in 10 principles:

  1. Integrate your personal agenda in the context of your company's business rhythm
  2. Agree to spend time managing your agenda
  3. Structure your annual agenda on the essentials of the manager
  4. Reflect your delegation policy in your agenda
  5. Reflect strategy in agenda priorities
  6. Control your time and plan for the unexpected
  7. Get in the habit of planning your week and calibrating your priorities
  8. Respect your biorhythm
  9. Do not waste time
  10. Use new technologies wisely

Effectively support the development of your business

The numerical constraint proposed by VISCONTI allows the manager to:

  • To set a clear objective;
  • To put in place a detailed action plan to achieve it.

On average, out of ten managers coached, two of them reach the 20% target, three reach 15% and five reach 10%. Managers are therefore able to reallocate at least half a day of their week and a maximum of one day.

This achievable objective of 20% allows a real improvement in the way the manager operates, who can then refocus his activities on strategic issues, be available in a more relaxed manner and effectively support the development of his company.
