The need for strong leadership

It is no longer enough to be a simple manager to manage the profound changes that businesses are facing today. Powerful leadership is an essential quality to engage your teams on ambitious trajectories.

The business world is increasingly complex, undergoing profound changes that are not only technological or digital, it is also societal and social: more autonomy and meaning for employees with more performance and results for shareholders.

To respond to this paradigm, companies have embarked on major transformation projects where it is no longer enough to be a simple manager to make them happen: you must have all the qualities of a true leader.

For those who are therefore wondering about their leadership level, rest assured: you are not born leaders, you become one!

Numerous articles and books have dealt with this subject and countless tips have been given to improve leadership.

So what more can I say? Simply share with you the experience of VISCONTI coaches in this field, which allows us to outperform the managers we support every day.

Here are four tips that will help you improve and strengthen your leadership:

1. Set goals to improve your leadership

Even if some have predisposition (charisma, listening, communication, inspiration...) all great leaders develop their leadership techniques as they work on their business goals.

Integrate the improvement of your leadership into your priorities too and take time each week to implement the action plan you have defined in order to progress and thus reach the type and level of leadership you want.

This will also be a sign of exemplarity among your employees in terms of how to achieve the goals set.

2. Work on knowing yourself

To reach a goal, it is necessary to know where you are starting from... Two axes to explore: your personality and your type of leadership.

Know your personality and develop your skills: this allows you to control your behavior in any environment and to be in sync in all types of interpersonal relationships.

Understand your motivations to share all your energy and beliefs with your team.

Know your natural type of leadership: this makes it possible to define the areas of development to adapt to the profile of the leader you want (should?) be according to the situation of your business.

Because obviously, there is no one leader profile that is better than others. It all depends on the issues and challenges to be addressed at the moment.

3. Develop your emotional intelligence

We all need a sense of belonging: being part of a group and, above all, playing a role in it are essential psychological needs.

Establishing his role as group leader by using his powers of authority and knowledge alone decreases his ability to perceive his employees, share his values but above all, suffocates the confidence and initiative necessary to engage them in change.

Use your relational power to synchronize each member of your team. This is an essential condition for mobilizing, animating and transgressing the group for which you are responsible so that it places its trust in you and achieves ambitious goals.

To do this, take an interest in your employees on topics that make them progress in their profession. Listen to their words but also to the weak signals to understand what is not said. Selectively reveal some of your weaknesses to make yourself accessible.

Help them grow by sharing your knowledge and experience. Trust them and accept micro failures. Engage the contradiction. In fact, make you want to!

4. Empower yourself to succeed

Get trained! The leader does not take the time to train. The many challenges he faces discourage him from doing so while, like his collaborators, he needs to make progress on his know-how (strategy, transformation, performance) and on his know-how (management, leadership, personal development).

Find a sponsor! Internally (N +2 mini) or externally (business-oriented coach), it helps you to take a step back, to get out of your comfort zone and even to take risks. It gives you feedback on your projects and your leadership posture, helps you decode your operating methods and even anticipate certain pitfalls.

To deepen your reflection on the role of the leader in business transformations and discover concrete strategies, consult our comprehensive guide to transformational leadership.

Finally, it broadens your frame of reference and challenges you on your goals.

Expand your network! Enrich yourself with new relationships, broaden your operational knowledge, and also meet influential and strategic people who inspire you!

To concretely discover where you stand as a leader, assess the pulse of your business in just 5 minutes, and receive personalized action plans aligned with the practices of the most successful leaders. Test your leadership now with VISCONTI PulsePro.
