How do you go from startup to manager? How to be obsolete and dispensable? What's the point of coaching?
SIMON DAWLAT (BATCH) & HUBERT REYNIER (VISCONTI PARTNERS)
After 4 years of running their startup Batch.com, Simon Dawlat and his partner Antoine faced a bottleneck in their business development and a sense of demotivation. Through The Galion Project, they decided to follow the recommendation of one of their peers and contacted VISCONTI. This is how Simon and Antoine met Hubert Reynier to receive coaching and help their company gain a new perspective.
After two initial sessions, their objectives and the challenges ahead were clear. Two main areas of focus emerged:
Simon had noticed a lack of motivation, a sort of grey area that he couldn’t quite understand. In essence, he and his partner were doing too much and doing it poorly—they had become the SPOFs (Single Points of Failure). There were a thousand things to do, but they didn’t know where to start.
In 2018, Batch.com had only 20 employees. While their client base was growing quickly, Batch had fallen behind in structuring their Executive Committee, as well as in hiring and training plans. The onboarding process was rudimentary, and they needed to restructure teams and prepare them for the international growth strategy.
Simon and Antoine wanted to make themselves “dispensable” so they could focus on the 3 main projects (culture, growth, brand) of their growth plan and handle the upcoming fundraising.
The VISCONTI coaching, which followed a three-step process (awareness, solution-finding, execution), achieved its goal, according to Simon.
The coaching became a “must-have”, a true performance accelerator.
Today, Batch has 50 employees, with 25 open positions, and has started a large-scale European expansion.
The initial growth plan has been successfully executed. Simon and Antoine are now ready for the next steps, with Hubert’s help, and are preparing for a new fundraising round.
